when we work hand in hand".

A short video of the 8th takbulacan

Our starting point at Caypombo, Sta. Maria, Bulacan
with our brand spanking new jersey, made by
"No.1 Apparel Design" or NAD

Group picture at SM Marilao, unfortunately only half
of the group was able to ride that day.

Looking forward for a century ride.

screen shots from my gopro

Our friends: Caypombo Cycling Group or CCG with
their brand spanking new jersey as well.

 Are we having fun yet?

 ofcourse we are!

How about you guys? are you having fun? I hope you
guys had a good time as well.

We got separated from our main group because we waited
for some of our team mates who went shopping for
masks in Tabang.

Finally we arrived at Jed's island resort, one of the sponsors
of the 8th Takbulacan.

Perfect parking lot for the "Katipuneros"

Resting while the program is ongoing.

Resting again at Tabang before traversing Guiguinto, Balagtas
Bocaue and finally Sta. Maria.

Overall it was a really fun ride, we clocked in at 105 Km. This is our first century ride and our first time to join an event like this as well.  I was really amazed by the number and variety of bikers that joined the "Takbulacan" fun ride, I was really happy seeing young BMX'ers, they remind me of myself when I was younger, the folding bikes, the japan city bikes, the manila bikes specially manong's bike, the one with the sound system that brought out smiles from everyone, the road bikes, the fixed gear bikes, the beach cruiser, the vintage bikes, we are all special in our own way.  The oganizers were pretty nice as well, they gave us food and water even if we didn't buy tickets for the event.

View of Ipo dam near hilltop, Norzagaray, Bulacan

This was supposed to be a short ride to Pinagrealan cave, after resting and taking pictures in Pinagrealan cave we decided to take a peek of the popular biking destination here in Bulacan, the so called Hilltop, unfortunately we only went up to 7km away from hilltop with an awesome view of Ipo dam and Sierra madre mountain range.

The ascent was not that hard compared to Timberland, San Mateo, Rizal...
Going down was a breeze, you can reach speeds of up to 40+kph with smooth turns, a word of caution though, some vehicles that I saw going up was eating the opposite lane on some occasions, so dont take the smooth turns lightly.

Overall it was a fun ride and this would now be included in our short rides list.

Timberland, San Mateo, Rizal

The infamous shotgun, where did it get its name?
according to Jong of bikers cafe there was once a security guard
up there with a shotgun... the end lol

We conquered "the wall" in 6 dismounts, maybe next time in 5 hehe
meanwhile, regular bikers of "the wall" goes up and down 3 to 4 times  in 2 to 3 hours!

The infamous "siko" is a sharp right hand turn after a fast section
of the descent... How to know if "siko" is approaching? there are speed bumps before siko...
I almost forgot about that, good thing I was warned by one of my mates while we were doing 60kph.
Bryan's top speed record is at 78kph!

Puning Cave II

Check out the new road to Puning Cave, no more rocks gardens! the descent near the creek/bridge is now paved, the amazing mango tree where the huge branch crosses the road is now gone, good news for the locals though. Even the swimming area near the cave has been renovated to accomodate more swimmers and it looks awesome, good job Brgy. Bayabas!

Pinagtulayan Quarry, DRT

We discovered this trail while heading to puning cave via a longer but easier route and now it has become a regular destination for my team, it is located along the borders of Norzagaray and DRT This trail is perfect for BBQ and taking a dip in the cool and clean creek where the friendly locals do their laundry.

Trail Features/Tips:
*Fast descents up to 40+kph
*Some steep sections (endo alert)
*Loose conditions during dry season
*Sharp rocks everywhere
*Really loose pebbles after the descent (I crashed because of those pebbles because I was going too fast!)
*Not recommended for a total newbie (A friend of mine, a newbie got KO'd for a few seconds when he crashed)
*5kph climb after the creek
*Bring lots of water

Directions: Head east until you reach the trail head then turn left.
